The Vineyard Haven Public Library, Quest of Martha’s Vineyard, and the Martha’s Vineyard Museum announce the public launch of the Tisbury Village Quest.

The Tisbury Village Quest began late last spring when a group participated in a two-day workshop coordinated by the Martha’s Vineyard Museum with Steve Glazer, founder of Valley Quest. Participants learned the skills to create their own community treasure hunt while understanding the role of community history in place-based education. Island historian Jim Norton provided input and a historical framework for the townwide Quest. Other participants included Betty Honey, Ruth Stiller and Bob Tilton.

The Tisbury Village Quest takes participants throughout the town of Tisbury visiting specific historic buildings, embellished by oral histories.

The Tisbury Village Quest will be available at the Vineyard Haven Public Library beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. The quest takes under one hour to complete. Participants young and old will discover interesting curiosities and information about the town and some of its buildings. Highlights include the special shingle design on one of the oldest houses and a meditative circle outside one of the most renowned buildings.

The Vineyard Haven Public Library plans to provide a stamp-making workshop for any and all interested participants beginning at 11 a.m.

In addition, Jim Norton, Betty Honey, Ruth Stiller, and Bob Tilton will be available to answer questions about Vineyard Haven’s history and the selection of locations for the town of Tisbury quest beginning at noon. The museum will display relevant photos and paper documents from their archives.

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library will host a special launch party on the patio at the library.
