A program called Keeping Young People Safe on the Internet, a positive approach for parents, guardians and adults who work with young people, will be presented next week by Katelyn M. LeClerc, former Internet safety program coordinator for the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General.
Her talk is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Oak Bluffs School. Promising powerful and thought-provoking information understandable even for parents not as computer savvy as their kids, Ms. LeClerc will cover: a description of the latest dangers; Not My Kid, personal stories demonstrating potential dangers online that everyone faces; case-specific examples of Internet crimes against children; suggestions about what guardians can do to make sure kids are safely using the Internet; a demonstration of popular social networking sites; monitoring/filtering software suggestions; and any other questions parents would like to raise.
Ms. LeClerc also will speak to middle-school children during the day.
