Louisa Gould Gallery announces a new show, The Permanent Collection of the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association, opening Saturday, Nov. 8, with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m.
The art association’s Old Sculpin Gallery has assembled over the years a unique collection of art made on the Vineyard by established artists with Island connections, including, Hans Hoffman (1880-1998), Vaclav Vytlacil (1892-1984), Ruth Appledorn Mead (1894-1994), William Abbe (1916-1983), Mary Drake Coles (1903-1993), Julius Delbos (1879-1970), Frank C. Wright (1904-1982) and Marion Freeman Wakeman (1891-1953). Living Island artists include Fred Messersmith, Renee George O’Sullivan, Ray Ellis and Louisa Gould.
This is the first time selected works from the MVAA collection are on view in Vineyard Haven. Through the promotion of the collection, the MVAA hopes to raise funds for the restoration and reframing of these works.
A selection of the collection will be for sale. Proceeds from sales go to the MVAA and the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust. The show is on exhibit from Nov. 6 to Nov. 20, and online at www.louisagould.com.
The gallery is open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. and also by appointment. The gallery is located at 54 Main street in Vineyard Haven. For details call 508-693-7373.
