This month, the West Tisbury Library is showcasing the work of eight female artists from the Vineyard with an exhibition in the community room gallery.

Titled Island Woman’s Views, the group show features oil painting, woodcuts, landscapes and portraits by Ruth Kirchmeier, Katy Upson, Elizabeth Taft, Diana Rice, Dale Weymouth Julier, Judith Drew Schubert, Lizzy Schule and Wenonah Madison.

For several years, according to a library announcement, these eight women have created art together, working outside to draw or paint en plein air. Many in the group participate in the open painting studio at Featherstone Center for the Arts. Some members join in Liz Taft’s still life class, also at Featherstone.

January’s exhibit is the second show the group has put together; the first appeared as a virtual show on the West Tisbury Library’s website in September of 2020.

The art show is free and open to the public during library hours, which are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m on Sunday. A public reception for the artists may be held later in the month, "Covid cautions dependent," according to the announcement.
