Buying Local

Ali Berlow of the Island Grown Initiative will discuss where to buy locally grown produce at a free talk on Wednesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. at Vineyard Haven Public Library, as part of the library’s ongoing Menu for the Future workshop.

Mrs. Berlow is the founding executive director of a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the small family farmers of Martha’s Vineyard and to raising consumer awareness about the importance of locally-grown food. The initiative is trying to recreate the infrastructure to support small Island farmers, increasing access to locally-grown food while strengthening local economies and community.

Mrs. Berlow is a longtime food essayist for NPR; A Cooks Notebook can still be found at cooksnotebook.com. She is also the owner/editor of Edible Vineyard, a new magazine launching this month.
