Cape Air will begin direct service between Martha’s Vineyard and New York June 12, starting with a daily flight between West Tisbury and White Plains Airport in Westchester County.

The airline is ready to increase the number of flights per day at any time if demand is there, according to director of communications Michelle Haynes. “We will add planes, no question, if people want this and are going to do it,” she said. The service is set to continue through Sept. 28. As of Wednesday, 26 seats had been sold on the route.

The flight will take 65 minutes in Cape Air’s Cessna 402s, at a cost of about $500 round-trip. Flights will leave the Martha’s Vineyard Airport daily at 10:30 a.m., arriving in White Plains at 11:39. Flights bound for the Island leave White Plains at noon, arriving at 1:12 p.m.

Special Friday late-afternoon departures from White Plains and Monday early-morning returns are also available. “We hope passengers enjoy convenient, nonstop flights with no TSA lines and our beautiful White Plains location,” Cape Air’s vice president Andrew Bonney said in a statement.

Flights will go through the Landmark Aviation facility, adjacent to Westchester County’s main terminal, a quiet area with plush seating and food that mainly serves charter airlines, Ms. Haynes said. Parking is available in the main terminal’s garage.

The airline calls the service “boutique,” designed for ease of travel. “It will be so easy. Get to the airport, park, walk on the plane — like the old Cape Air — and walk off on the Vineyard,” said Ms. Haynes, estimating about two hours door-to-door.

“Our passengers have been asking for New York service for a long, long time,” she said. Cape Air has been looking for ways to do the service cost-effectively, Ms. Haynes said, describing this as a very conservative start that did not require a huge financial commitment from the airline in case demand was not there.

“The landscape of the Cape and Islands is littered with former airlines who tried to do New York service — it’s very expensive,” she said.

Cape Air tickets are available at online outlets including Travelocity and Expedia and can also be purchased at flycapeair.com or, for no additional charge, at 800-352-0714.
