Tomorrow night’s crescent moon appears under the bright planet Saturn. The two are in the zodiacal constellation Leo. Saturn is the ringed planet and looks great through a telescope. Anyone with a powerful scope will have no trouble pointing it toward the planet and the moon.
Saturn’s rings are almost edgewise and are undergoing a change. The rings will line up with the earth later this year. Even those with the best telescopes will have a hard time seeing the rings.
On Sunday night the first quarter moon appears between Saturn and the bright star Spica. Spica is the principal star in the zodiacal constellation Virgo. Spica and Saturn are about the same brightness.
The moon moves up close to Spica on Tuesday night.
The gibbous moon moves through the zodiacal constellation Libra, in the southern sky on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
