Vineyard Power, a community-owned cooperative that seeks to engage Islanders in reducing their energy rates through renewable energy generation, will be the subject of a community presentation and discussion at the Chilmark Free Public Library on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m.

Suzanne Slarsky Dael of the Vineyard Energy Project will speak as part of the library’s autumn lecture series.

While the waters around the Vineyard have become the focus of state and federal planning for wind power development, the Vineyard Energy Project believes that wind turbines in these waters should be controlled by the Island and deliver benefit to the Island, Ms. Dael says.

Cooperative members would decide what renewable energy projects were appropriate for the community, while gaining access to reliable and affordable energy and decreasing their carbon footprint, she suggests.

All are welcome; admission is free. For details, call 508-645-3360.
