IMP, the Island’s youth improv troupe, has been selected to perform at the 2010 Teen Chicago Improv Festival, and will be in the spotlight for two nights in a row this weekend in an effort to raise funds for the trip to the Windy City.

Tonight, Friday, April 9, the IMPers will be at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven, performing a short skit as an introduction to the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society’s screening of Trust Us, This Is All Made Up, a documentary film centered around the world class improv team of T.J. Jagdowski and Dave Pasquesi. According to the society’s Richard Paradise, “The duo, both Second City vets, doesn’t do improv comedy but rather improv farce, creating multi-act plays on the fly with developed characters, themes, cliff-hangers, and moments of pure, blissful insanity . . . This is high wire work and it’s jazz and it’s marvelous.”

The theatre doors open at 7 p.m., with the IMPers taking the stage at 7:30. Admission is $8, or $5 for film society members. A portion of these proceeds will go to the IMPer’s travel fund.

The troupe’s second act is also at the Katharine Cornell, at 8 p.m. tomorrow night, Saturday, April 10. This time, they will be joined by members of WIMP, their adult counterpart troupe, for an evening that includes an “interactive” live auction, a silent auction for services provided by the IMPers, and a healthy dose of both short and long form improvisation.

Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door, and special discounted tickets are available from the cast at various locations prior to the show for $15. For details, call 508-939-9368 or visit imp4kids.com.
