Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation has been awarded a $3,000 matching grant from the National Trust to create a site plan for the Mayhew-Hancock-Mitchell House at Quansoo Farm in Chilmark.
This grant will enable Sheriff’s Meadow to create a plan for the house, its surroundings and the nearby structures that is coordinated, attractive and appropriate. The site plan will also enable Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation to create a document to be used in filings with the Chilmark Historical Commission and other town boards, as needed.
Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation was among several grant recipients selected in a competitive application process from applicants across New England and Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
In announcing the grant, National Trust Northeast regional office director Wendy Nicholas said, “With these startup dollars, Chilmark joins the hundreds of other communities across the country actively ensuring that America’s architectural and cultural heritage is preserved.”
Through its Preservation Services Fund program, the National Trust offers small matching grants to nonprofit groups and public agencies to support a wide range of local historic preservation projects across the nation.
