Saltwater Gallery, in the rolling fields along Lambert’s Cove Road, presents artist Ashley Medowski’s new mixed media: Historic Island Landmarks.

Miss Medowski’s once-a-summer reception will be on Sunday, August 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. Celebrating the old Vineyard, Miss Medowski has painted what she calls “portraits” of favorite Island scenes including the Vanderhoop Homestead, Menemsha Market, and the Old Cranberry Bog in Lambert’s Cove.

The artist will also show her unique assemblages of paintings on wood with found and handmade objects. In The Menemsha Shack, electrical transistors have become bait barrels and buoys. She is a silversmith as well; pegged to the shack roof sits a sterling silver tugboat weathervane.

Fulling Mill Brook features a detail of the old stone bridge in a springtime scene complete with the first hints of spring — skunk cabbage and a visiting skunk.

The gallery itself is a work of art to be viewed, as Miss Medowski restores a bit of the 1869 barn every year with her unique visionary aesthetic, retaining her love for the old Vineyard and history. Her sea glass jewelry and mosaic windows will also be on display.

All are welcome to come enjoy the art, the refreshments and the view of James Pond, at 367 Lambert’s Cove Road in West Tisbury. For details, call 508-696-8822.
