This week’s evening lecture at the Chilmark Community Center is Inside Enemy Lines: How Technology Is Changing the Business of Media with Jessica Vascellaro, deputy bureau chief in New York, and formerly San Francisco, for the Wall Street Journal.

An expert in how companies like Google and Amazon are eating into publishers’ business models, Ms. Vascellaro will discuss how new technologies for aggregating and distributing the news are reshaping the media industry. From Kindle to Twitter, the explosion of new technologies is creating new opportunities for content creators and new revenue streams for savvy media executives. She will discuss how she and her colleagues at the Journal make the most of social media to reach new audiences, facilitate reporting and help build their brands during the twilight of traditional print journalism.

The talk is on Thursday, August 19, at 8 p.m. at the center at 520 South Road. It is free for members, $5 nonmembers. For details, call 508-645-9484.
