On Wednesday, August 18 and 25, Emerson College’s Stroopwafel will join the Island’s college troupe WIMP on the Grange Hall stage.
Stroopwafel’s appearance will bring comedy improv full circle. In 1994 a bunch of talented actors started performing comedy improv on Wednesday nights under the name WIMP. In 2003 when the original WIMP members moved on to different projects, the Wednesday night comedy improv laughs continued at the Grange Hall theater when the high school troupe trained by the original WIMP members became the IMPers. Not only did the IMPers take over the improv scene on Island by delivering high quality improv comedy shows year-round, they also made a splash on the national improv scene by scoring invitations to perform at the best improv festivals around the country. In 2007 the first group of IMPers — Ashley Peters, Ed Cisek and Devin Colter — graduated from high school, went on to college, and became the new version of WIMP. They return every summer to their Wednesday night improv home to perform.
This year, WIMP member Ashley Peters returns with the improv troupe she founded at Emerson College — Stroopwafel. The last two Wednesdays of the summer season, Stroopwafel joins WIMP in a two-act, fast-paced, short-form comedy improv show. The show will include all the WIMP favorite games and skits with some new twists plus some games created by Stroopwafel.
The show is open to all ages, is rated PG-13, and starts at 8 p.m. at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. The $12 tickets are available at the door or in advance at ticketsmv.com. For details, go to troubledshores.com or call 508-939-9368.
