Rocking and Rolling Into Town
The Ryan Montbleau Band is coming to the Vineyard this Saturday, August 28. They will be playing at Nectar’s, a venue that in two years has very quickly proven itself as the go-to club for serious musical talent. This weekend’s choice is the perfect coda to a summer full of top-notch acts.
The Ryan Montbleau Band can rock hard, the band playing tight and loud, and they can roll quietly with soulful acoustic melodies. They have put in their time on the road developing a devoted following; on Friday they played NYC, on Thursday, Boston. Next week they head to Pennsylvania, Maine and Texas.
A visit to their Web site lists the awards they’ve won: 2007 Boston music award for best local male vocalist, second prize in the 2007 international songwriters’ competition for their single Patience. There is also the tour they continue to do with Martin Sexton, sometimes opening, sometimes backing, always inspiring.
But their Web site also highlights some quieter, in a way non-musical, moments: A plea for donations to help a musician friend who had his gear stolen in Paramus, N.J., a percentage of their ticket sales going to environmental causes like Rock the Earth.
A band, ultimitely, is judged by the music they make. Rightly so. That the performers are good people too is icing on the cake. Not surprising, though for a guy who, when just starting out, didn’t urge his fans to bring more friends to each show. As he says, “It was about them bringing themselves. I’m trying to focus on the one person.”
This Saturday feel the vibe of being that one person while also grooving on the energy of a full crowd in sync with a band rocking it the only way they know how; their way.
This is a 21 and older show. Tickets are $12/advance, $18 day of the show. Nectar’s is located at 17 Airport Road in Edgartown. Doors open at 9:30 p.m.
