It’s cold out. Snow flurries have been sighted. Perhaps a big dump is on the way. The more mild-mannered of us, let’s face it, the majority of us, take this as a sign to head indoors each evening to wrap ourselves in a snuggie and sit by the fire.

Wussies. Housecats. City slicker softies. Might as well head to Florida with the other snowbirds.

But there is an alternative for those who want to get in touch with their inner Farley Mowat.

On Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an optional sleep-over component, Sassafras kids will begin their staying warm in the winter woods activities.

Kids will learn how to build outdoor shelters, cook venison stew and keep big fires going throughout the day. It’s a learning experience as well as fun. Kids will play outdoor games all day long too.

Then for the truly hardy, those with previous Sassafras experience, there is the opporunity to spend the night in the woods bunking down in the shelter built during the day. A softie no more.

There will be breakfast the following morning with pick-up by 11 a.m.

The cost for the workshop is $45 per day.
