Peace Corps Talk
Fifty years ago, John F. Kennedy created the Peace Corps. Since then over 200,000 Americans have entered the Peace Corps serving in 139 countries around the world. To celebrate this momentous anniversary, the Vineyard Haven Public Library is hosting an event on Wednesday, July 20, with former volunteer, Michael McCaskey.
Mr. McCaskey served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, teaching science and English in a remote farming town. This past March he returned to Ethiopia with his daughter and a fellow volunteer and reconnected with more than a dozen of his former students. His talk will focus on what has, and has not, changed in Ethiopia during the past forty years.
Mr. McCaskey is a former business school professor who taught at UCLA and Harvard and then became a business executive for more than twenty years. After retiring from his executive position, he became a fulltime photographer.
The talk begins at 7 p.m. For more details, call 508-696-4211.
