The CIA is speaking. Well, at least Vicki Divol, former CIA lawyer, is talking and she’s doing it right here at the Chilmark Public Library.

Ms. Divol’s lecture is entitled Can the President Keep Counterterrorist Operations Secret from Congress? It will take place on Wednesday, August 3, at 5:30 p.m.

As counsel for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Ms. Divol was responsible for developing policy, and drafting and negotiating Title IX of the Patriot Act, known as Improved Intelligence. In this capacity, she oversaw operational and policy issues related to international terrorism, covert action, counterintelligence, and electronic surveillance.

Currently, Ms. Divol is teaching American Government at the United States Naval Academy.
