Calling all ye wranglers of words, soothsayers of speech, and liberators of lobotomized lazy language: West Tisbury wants you.

Nominations for the next poet laureate of West Tisbury will be accepted from Jan. 3 to Feb. 1. Forms are available at the library and require the nominator’s name and contact information along with the nominee’s name and contact information.

The position of West Tisbury Poet Laureate is a municipal appointment with a term of one year (renewable up to three). It requires the ability to pull out of every Islander their own wellspring of poetic fire so complete the fields lay fallow, fish frolic without fear of net or hook, and tradesmen put down their tape measures and instead measure worth via iambic pentameter colossi.

Or, rather, it requires the poet to write one poem per year to be printed in the Town Report. The Poet Laureate will also function as the community member on the Library committee.
