Four members of the Martha’s Vineyard masters swim team traveled to the Boston University aquatics and athletic center for the 2011 New England short course metres swim championships in December. The meet saw several New England and national records set. Nearly 400 swimmers from all over the country competed. Leslie Craven and Les Cutler swam the 800-metre freestyle. Leslie was second in the women’s 50 to 54-year-old age group (11.07.29), while Les was third in the men’s 65 to 69-year-old age group (16:48.72). Liz Fox was fifth in the 200-metre freestyle (3:16.04) and 50-metre freestyle (37.58), and seventh in the 100-metre freestyle (1:25.56) in the women’s 55 to 59-year-old age group. Rainy Goodale swam against the nation’s number one woman breast stroker, Kelly Legaspi, in the 40 to 44-year-old age group, and came in second in the 100-metre (1:20. 85) and 200-metre (2:55.35) breast stroke events. She was second in the 100-metre individual medley (1:14.91) and fourth in the 50-metre freestyle (31.61).
