Lent is coming, but before you start thinking about what to give up, it’s time to indulge. The Vineyard is playing host to a variety of Mardi Gras festivities on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Those without a ticket to the Big Easy can trade Bourbon street for 1051 State Road when the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury hosts its second annual Mardi Gras pancake supper and celebration. The pancakes are made with local ingredients, including Morning Glory Farm eggs and Mermaid Farm yogurt. The activities and music are homegrown too, featuring a Caribbean groove performed by Rick Bausman, Brian Weiland and Hudson Bausman. Beads and coins will be thrown. Nothing like kids wrestling beneath the pews for a bit of Mardi mayhem to lift the spirits. The party runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Suggested donation is $5 per person or $15 per family. Call 508-693-2842 for more information.
There will also be a Shrove Tuesday pancake and scrambled egg supper beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Parish House in Vineyard Haven. For information, or to make reservations, call 508-693-1539.
And for those for whom a night on the barstool feels more fitting than one dancing in the pews, never fear; the Offshore Ale is celebrating with a Fat Tuesday party from 6 to 8:30 p.m. For full details, call 508-693-2626.
