The Vineyard postseason sports bus keeps rolling, with the boys’ basketball team picking up their first playoff win of the season Wednesday afternoon, defeating visiting Dedham 79-46.

The team jumped out to an eight-point lead before Dedham broke through the Vineyard defense to score, and led by 23 points at the half.

Senior Peter Keaney turned in 27 points, including three three-pointers, and had eight rebounds. Junior Jack Roberts scored 15 points (two threes) and senior Izak Browne notched 11 (two threes). Seniors Del Araujo, Charlie Everett and Will Stewart grabbed several key rebounds to thwart a Dedham comeback, while senior Ryan Fisher, playing sick, effectively shut down Dedham’s leading scorer, Jeremy Clifford.

“So many people played well today,” said coach Mike Joyce, describing the first half as the best basketball the Vineyarders have played all year.

With the win, the boys join both girls’ basketball and girls’ hockey in advancing to the next round of the playoffs. The boys’ hockey team plays its first game on Saturday.

The basketball team keeps home court advantage for its next game, which takes place Friday at 4 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday’s Bourne/Bishop Feehan game.

Girls’ basketball plays East Bridgewater Thursday at home at 4 p.m.
