A few months ago the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in collaboration with Featherstone Center for the Arts urged everyone to paint a portrait as part of the Island Faces Portrait Contest. Approximately 60 brave souls took up the charge and submitted paintings, drawings, and photographs. Now comes the hard part — judging the winners.
The jury pool is made up of Carol Craven, former director of the Carol Craven Gallery, Steve DiRado, photographer and senior lecturer of Studio Arts at Clark University, Michael Hunter, stylist and owner of PikNik gallery in Oak Bluffs, and Francine Kelly, former executive director of Featherstone.
The winning portraits will debut at the museum’s summer opening reception on June 15 and remain on display through Oct. 6.
But the public’s participation is not over. There will also be a people’s choice category, the results of which will be unveiled in an exhibition to open on Oct. 14 at Featherstone.
