On Sunday, Feb. 17, at 5:30 p.m. the 28th annual MLK Jr. members and awards dinner of the Martha’s Vineyard branch of the NAACP will be celebrated at The Grill on Main Street in Edgartown. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and the featured guest speaker is Patricia J. Williams.

Ms. Williams is the James L. Dohr professor of law at Columbia University. She also writes a monthly column for the Nation Magazine called The Diary of a Mad Law Professor. She is the author of many books including Alchemy of Race, which was named one of the best nonfiction books of 1991 by Ms. Magazine. She has appeared on the Charlie Rose and the Bill Moyers shows as well as serving as a guest commentator for the Australian and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

The evening will also celebrate the achievements of Joyce Stiles-Tucker for her leadership of the Vineyard Haven Senior Center, Heidi Dietterich for Meals on Wheels, and Rabbi Caryn Broitman of the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center.

Tickets are $85 each, which includes the annual membership to the MVNAACP.
