Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

Becoming a parent brings the whole gamut of human emotions and challenging responsibilities. While it can be joyous and fulfilling for all parents and caregivers regardless of age, education or socio-economic status it can also be stressful and overwhelming at times. It is important that not only parents, but friends, relatives and community members learn how to care for crying babies and overwhelmed caregivers so that we can provide helpful nonjudgmental support. To that end staff at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services participated in a training session titled Babies Cry – Have A Plan on Wednesday, July 24 provided by the Children’s Trust Fund. Normalizing crying, expanding the repertoire of soothing techniques and practical steps to take if you feel overwhelmed as a caregiver were covered. This training is available through the Family Center to any group or individual who requests it. We also provide home visits on request. Our goal is to build a safer, healthier community through knowledge and caring support.
