Edgartown police are searching for a car involved in a hit and run accident on Tuesday.

According to a police report, the hit and run accident happened at about 2:45 on Tuesday afternoon on Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road. Susan Mccombe was driving her 2002 Jaguar northbound and stopped to turn left onto Briarwood Drive, the police report said, when she was hit by a vehicle that approached her “at a high rate of speed.” As the other car pulled to the left to pass her, the police report said, it struck the rear of the Jaguar, pushing the car off the road.

Ms. Mccombe told the Gazette that the car that hit her has significant front-end damage and her car is likely totalled.

The police report said Ms. Mccombe described the car as a small sedan that was occupied by three young adults. Police said it was likely a silver/gray General Motors car. Police have issued a bulletin for any car matching the description given. Anyone with information can contact the Edgartown police at 508-627-4343.
