It was a hot time on a cold, gray day Saturday when a crowd of 2,000 jammed the Portuguese American Club to celebrate the 28th annual WMVY Big Chili Contest. The sold-out event raised $34,000 for the Red Stocking Fund this year.

People sampled chilis and danced to the music of the Mariachi Mexico Lindo Band, the Baja Brothers and later to Johnny Hoy.

Prizes were awarded in an array of categories, professional, amateur and also special categories like Most Traveled, Is it Really Chili and hottest chili. That category is now named for Steve Jordan who for more than 18 consecutive years won the category and retired last year from the competition.

Ken Goldberg was a celebrity judge. To view more pictures, see photo gallery.
