Thanks to the late Dorothy Bangs for her decades of enthusiasm, organization and efforts towards raising money through Daffodil Days to help ease the pain of a cancer diagnosis. The Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group continued that mission this year on March 17.
It all started in the 1980s when the American Cancer Society and Dorothy Bangs linked up for Daffodil Days. Many of Dorothy’s dedicated volunteers joined with the cancer support group this year to continue the fundraising tradition by selling daffodils. The cancer support group was the sole beneficiary this year because the American Cancer Society discontinued their Daffodil Days fundraiser in 2013. All money raised by the cancer support group stays on Martha’s Vineyard providing temporary and emergency financial assistance to year-round Island cancer patients and their families.
The group would like to graciously thank all the volunteers who gave their time and helped to make this fundraiser a great success. We also want to thank Cronig’s Market in Vineyard Haven, Stop & Shop in Edgartown and the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for kindly letting us sell daffodils to the public.
Because Daffodil Days is a registered trademark of the American Cancer Society, next spring the cancer support group will remind you when it’s daffodil time again and celebrate spring’s arrival
. . . daffodil style!
