It will officially be summer this weekend. The weather is warmer and people are on the beach, starting to enjoy their vacation.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Gabriella Carlos Silva who celebrated June 14; Jackson Crocker, and Julia Crocker, June 15; Jackson Pizzano, June 17; Meghan Sawyer, June 19, and to Lauren Boyd and Raven McCormack who celebrate their day today, June 20.

Special birthday wishes go out to Sandy Alestra who celebrated a milestone birthday on June 13. Sandy was pleasantly surprised by a gathering her husband Vinny had planned at Sharkey’s. There were some of Sandy’s friends but she was really pleased to have time for her son Mike and his wife Donna and grandsons Parker and Andrew. Also, daughter Karen was present and her husband Matt Koyne. It was a great night. Happy birthday, Sandy, and here is to many more!

We all know we do not enjoy going to the Stop and Shop but we have to look at some of the positive. With the road being closed that goes behind the school, the kids had a hard time selling their veggies. So one of the parents asked if the kids could sell veggies in front of the store and they said yes. It was a great success for the kids and they really appreciated the Stop and Shop’s help.

This past school year alone they have harvested over 600 pounds of tomatoes and with the help of Gina deBettencourt, were able to put all to use to feed the students. The kids pick out the seeds they want to grow in their garden, then grow them, harvest them and, most of all, eat them.

Congratulations to Ashley Spinney and Kraig Mundt who were united in marriage on June 14 at Loon Mountain Resort in New Hampshire. It was a beautiful day as it had rained for two days prior. They were married by Roger Spinney, the brides father, and we teased him, saying he has an “in with the man above” so could he put in an order for sun. He said he didn’t have that big of an in, but the afternoon of the wedding the sun came out in all its glory and even a breeze came up, which helped get rid of the mosquitoes and black flies.

Many people from the Island traveled to New Hampshire for the wedding, and some were from the boys’ 2008 hockey team. There were 16 present and it was a reunion of sorts.
