Ashley Medowski features her 13th Annual Art Show, Menemsha, Boats + Sea Life, on Sunday, August 10, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at her gallery on 367 Lambert’s Cove in West Tisbury.
Ms. Medowski exhibits finely detailed paintings of historic Menemsha, with its beloved Vineyard boats, including a mixed media miniature of the fishing vessel The Unicorn. One of her largest mixed media works this year, The Captain Flanders’ House, is another history lesson. The work shows the windmill as it once stood before the hurricane of 1938. The piece is finished with a mosaic beach stonewall and Ms. Medowski’s handmade frame made from weathered wood collected from the Flander’s property. Each pieces tells a story, as does the history of her gallery. Built in 1869, the gallery was the old fishing barn of Capt. Norman Benson, her great-grandfather.
