The Vineyard’s own Rob Douglas won best speed and three out of four races at the National French Kitesurfing Speed Championships held last week in La Franqui, France.
Mr. Douglas is sponsored by Cabrinha Kites, Lynch Associates and The Black Dog. Mr. Douglas’s family owns The Black Dog.
The National French Kitesurfing Speed Championships took place at Les Coussoules Beach, and wind speeds averaged between 15 and 30 knots. The first day of the competition took place with three to five foot high surf and deep downwind angles, while day two brought winds up to 30 knots and flat water. In these conditions Mr. Douglas sailed his Cabrinha Velocity prototype to the best speed of the event, with an average speed of 42.5 knots and a maximum speed of 47.8 knots.
Mr. Douglas has held records as the fastest kite surfer in the world. He is undefeated in kitespeed events since October 2011.
