In memory of my husband David who died Sept. 29, our family would like to thank so many in the Vineyard community who made his almost 30 summers here so memorable and special. The last four years of those summers, my husband had many health issues. We would like to extend a huge gratitude to those who helped him through some difficult times.

A heartfelt thanks and appreciation to everyone at Vineyard Dialysis, especially Lauren, Mary Lou and Martha for their kind and wonderful care for the past four summers. We greatly appreciate their compassion, humor and expertise, making David feel so comfortable and special. Vineyard Dialysis provides an exceptional and much-needed service to the Island. My family and I are forever grateful to them for all they did for David.

To Chris Morse at The Granary Gallery, whose enthusiastic welcome summer after summer made our day. David loved driving up-Island to see Chris and spend many afternoons at his beautiful gallery. Thank you, Chris, for your friendship all these years.

To Patty Culkins at Hannah B in Edgartown, who was always there to listen, hug and make us smile anytime we frequented her store. Your sensitivity and humor always made David smile. And for the many heartfelt conversations that pulled us through tough days — thank you.

To Gino, for always saving a spot for David on the bench outside Scoops in Edgartown. David loved spending time sitting on that bench chatting about life and the Vineyard happenings. It was the first place he would go when we drove off the boat. There will never be a time when passing that bench, we won’t think about David, taking in the beautiful Edgartown surroundings with you.

To everyone at the Steamship Authority from the main office to the wonderful friends at the docks on the Vineyard and Woods Hole, we cannot thank you enough for your camaraderie and smiles season after season. So many of you helped us so many times during emergencies, getting us tickets off the Island when David needed to be rushed to a Boston hospital. And recently, all your hugs and condolences when I returned to the Vineyard after David passed away brought me solace and comfort.

We cannot end without a special thank you to our loving and supportive Vineyard friends for 30 years, Nisa and Peter Poulos. Nisa, I could not have made it through the last few months without you. David, myself and my children are so thankful to you both for being there for us.

David loved Edgartown and Edgartown loved him back. We are indebted to all for making the last 29 years so wonderful.
