The 70 per cent increase in the electricity supply rate being experienced by Cape Light Compact (CLC) is being felt by all NSTAR customers, not just CLC. NSTAR has 1.1 million electricity customers. Viridian is only targeting CLC customers and will not guarantee they will stay lower than CLC and save you money over the next three years. Check out the end of the first video on their website and you will find the following quote, “Viridian does not guarantee any (emphasis added) savings for customers.”

CLC spawned the Cape and Vineyard Electric Cooperative (CVEC). The towns of Tisbury, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement locking in an electric supply rate lower than Viridian’s offer.

When I phoned Viridian on Sunday I got a request to give them the account number on my electricity bill. If I had, they could have signed me up without my permission, which, in the industry is known as “slamming.”

If you don’t want to get “slammed,” stay with Cape Light Compact, a nationally recognized award-winning energy services organization operated by the 21 towns and two counties on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.
