On Earth Day, April 22, local filmmakers Ken Wentworth and Liz Witham will celebrate visionary Islanders through their Sustainable Vineyard Episodes series. The documentary husband and wife team have created a series of films between 10 and 16 minutes long. The event takes place at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Three films will be shown at the screening. The Secret Life of Conch features Shelley Edmundson who has been researching conch for years. Conch is the Island’s largest fishery, and yet the least known, in part because most of the catch is shipped off-Island.

Goatscaping follows the journey of a Kristen Fauteux, Rebecca Gilbert and Randy Ben David, who partnered up to use goats to clear invasive bittersweet.

The Story of Seeds explores three stories of local seeds. Tim Boland, Tom Clark and Ian Jochems from the Polly Hill Arboretum take on the importance of native seeds and their MV Wild Type program, Noli Taylor, director of Island Grown schools, promotes the new seed library on Martha’s Vineyard, and Melinda Rabbitt DeFeo is knee-deep in ancient corn which she grew with students at the Edgartown school.

Following the films there will be a Q&A with the filmmakers and many of the people featured in the films.
