Ann Smith, the executive director of Featherstone Center for the Arts and chairman of Arts Martha’s Vineyard, was the recipient of the Tourism Award for Martha’s Vineyard.

As the designated regional tourism council for the Island, the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce nominates a Vineyarder who exemplifies the best in tourism and hospitality. Ms. Smith received the award May 13 at a state house ceremony celebrating Massachusetts Tourism Day, the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce said in a press release.

Ms. Smith has been the executive director at Featherstone since September 2010. The former head of schools at St. Richards School in Indianapolis, Ind., she came to Martha’s Vineyard to support her mother, Francine Kelly, who was the first executive director at Featherstone. She was chosen to lead the new Arts Martha’s Vineyard collaborative in 2011.

“Ann is a tireless supporter of arts and culture on Martha’s Vineyard,” Andrea Rogers, president of the Chamber of Commerce and founder of Vineyard Artisans Festival, said in a press release. “Under Ann’s leadership, Arts Martha’s Vineyard has implemented shoulder season programs that help us all by growing our Island economy.”
