Featherstone Center for the Arts and Mass Audubon Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary are flocking together, collaborating on a new exhibition titled For The Birds.

The exhibit has been enriching for both organizations, said Featherstone executive director Ann Smith.

“It’s been a wonderful opportunity to welcome Felix Neck visitors to Featherstone and Featherstone visitors to Felix Neck,” she said. “While there may be a lot of overlap, for those not familiar with the other organization, it’s a great way to introduce them to it.”

Over 100 artists have their work showcased in the main gallery, all relating to birds and the outdoors. Students in the preschool program at Felix Neck and the art programs at Featherstone also worked together to create an exhibition at Schule Chapel on the Featherstone campus.

The exhibition runs from April 7 to 26, and celebrated an opening reception last weekend.

Two special events are upcoming.

On April 12 at Featherstone, Creature Feature: Owls is aimed towards families, with crafts and interactive stories for kids to learn more about owls.

Accessible Bird Sit at Felix Neck takes place April 26. The event will be a chance to birdwatch on the grounds of the wildlife sanctuary.

“It’s great for folks who might not be able to get out far in trails, from small children, to those in canes and wheelchairs,” said Suzan Bellincampi, Islands Director at Felix Neck “Sometimes it’s hard for people to get far field but you can still learn about and enjoy birds.”

Ms. Bellincampi said she is happy about how the exhibit and events have panned out.

“People should definitely buy art because it supports both organizations, and if you can’t, the bird sit is free, the exhibit is free,” she said. “We really want people to go out and enjoy it. The kids’ and artists’ work is inspirational.”

Ms. Smith is looking forward for more partnerships similar to this one.

“I hope our visitors will walk away with the greater appreciation of the magical Island that we live on,” she said.
