Thank you Martha’s Vineyard for another practically perfect summer. My grandkids and I are grateful to so many wonderful people who make the Island a joy for us: the staff at the Flying Horses; the staff and the food at Biscuits; Anderson’s bikes and the VTA bus people who got us literally everywhere we wanted to go except Long Point; Good Dog Goods and all the people who kindly stop when the kids say “Can I pet your dog?”; the patient young man at the Wampanoag art festival who let my grandson have three turns at drilling a hole in his wampum; the artists at the Vineyard artisan festival and whoever designed and built that amazing playground next to it; the harbor taxi for the amazing view of all the boats at sunset; the library — oh how can we thank the library enough, books, internet, air conditioning, ice cream in the morning and even prizes for doing the reading that we so love; and especially Beth and her teachers at Island Gymnastics.

We came for the gymnastics and the climbing wall but keep coming back for your loving kindness. It’s time to stop and I haven’t yet thanked the beaches, the air, the water, the sand, the shells, the berries.

See you next summer.
