As a new full-time resident of the Island (after 25 years as a summer resident ), I thought I might suggest a solution to the ever complex issue of the Stop & Shop expansion plans. A solution that might also help to eliminate the ever present traffic issue in Vineyard Haven and Edgartown particularly in the summer season. Why not build one new food store in the airport business park? This new store could feature ample parking, Island bus service and could also act as a revenue generator for our much maligned Airport operation. If Stop & Shop is not interested, maybe one of the many other food store giants could join the mix. Just think of a summer without thousands of hours of carbon monoxide from backed up traffic polluting our Island as another benefit of this new environmentally friendly solution. Just file this suggestion under food for thought.
