The winter moths have arrived — boy have they arrived! Driving around at night in some parts of Vineyard Haven, it looks like it’s snowing due to fact that so many of them are flying about. I cringe to think about what that means to our precious trees come spring when the winter moth eggs hatch. Short of some hard freeze, does anybody know what can be done? I thought they were bad last year as we started off with a mild winter, which is exactly what they thrive on, and then of course we got the winter of a lifetime. But the eggs were already laid, leading to the death of many trees by last spring. This year seems to be particularly bad as we are once again experiencing a mild start to winter. There must be something we can do to break this cycle?

Anybody have any suggestions?
