It may be cliche, but yes another year has passed in the blink of an eye. Well, no matter, it’s time to celebrate — accomplishments achieved in 2015 and the mystery of what is to come in 2016. It will be a moveable feast of parties around the Island as all the bars still open will light up dance floors for the last big night of the year until summer.
For any parents who need to spend some necessary time primping for the night ahead, the Edgartown Library will be hosting a screening of a Pixar movie followed by a dance party from 1 to 3 p.m. Note, kids under age eight will need to be accompanied by an adult.
But on the Eve, Dec. 31, a few highlights include the Harbor View Hotel’s annual New Year’s Eve Celebration bash beginning at 8 p.m. Watch from the porch at midnight as fireworks light up the sky over the Edgartown Lighthouse. Also in Edgartown, the Terrace at the Charlotte Inn hosts New Year’s Eve dinner from 3 to 7 p.m., and the Wharf features live music by Miso Honey and Moneyshot
In Oak Bluffs, the Ritz hosts its Odd Ball party with Paul Size and Johnny Hoy from 7 to 9 p.m. and then DJ Wep until closing. And at the Loft it is the Black and White Party with live music, visual art projections and live body painting — nothing says New Year’s like body painting. The Portuguese-American Club is throwing its bash from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m with Serendipity providing the music. And the Ocean View gets rolling at 10 p.m. with DJ Mateus Destefani rolling out the tunes. Cover is $10.
And up-Island, Pathways Projects host a New Year's Eve drop in party at the Chilmark Tavern from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for conversation and camaraderie, and to honor the contributions of Marianne Goldberg. For more information, call 508-645-9098.
Then, after a long night welcoming what is to come, perhaps some will want to leap out of bed, or continue riding the wave. For those up to the challenge, at 9:30 a.m. the eighth annual New Year’s Day Disc Golf Tournament takes place at the course off Barnes Road. The event is hosted by Offshore Ale, The Lazy Frog and The Barn Bowl & Bistro.
And with that, have a safe and happy New Year.
