September fourteenth. Summer was over and Martha’s Vineyard had already begun its annual downshift into fall. Children were back in school, the frenzy of August was a fast-fading memory.
It was an estimated not-so-balmy six degrees Monday morning when an extra-hardy group of 11 people took a polar plunge into Vineyard Sound to celebrate the New Year.
New Year’s Eve traditions from around the world include eating grapes, wearing polka dots, watching fireworks, eating black-eyed peas, sporting your best pair of lucky underwear and then, of course, the kiss.
