Oak Bluffs selectmen approved permits for two food trucks to operate this summer, the first since the board established a set of regulations governing mobile food establishments.

The board granted the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks a permit to operate a food truck during baseball games at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School this summer. Burgers, hot dogs, and other standard baseball fare will be offered from the truck, replacing the food stand used in previous summers. After the season, the Sharks will loan out the food truck for charitable causes, at no cost.

“We’ll own it, but we will allow other entities, the football team, the hockey team, to use it,” said Sharks general manager Shana Metzger.

The board also approved a permit transfer for a food truck at the Little Bridge. New owner Jacqueline Foster plans to sell rice bowls with local produce to beach-goers at Joseph A. Sylvia State Beach.

The board expressed concerns about exhaust smoke and generator noise.

“All food will be prepared off-site in a commercial kitchen in Vineyard Haven,” Ms. Foster said. “Because I’m using Island grown ingredients that are in season, the specific items will change.”

The board approved the permit with conditions, including a site plan and a more specific menu.

In other business, town administrator Robert Whritenour reported that the restoration of the North Bluff is on time and on budget and scheduled for substantial completion by June 30.

Mr. Whritenour said the project is 62 per cent complete, and $3 million of the $5.6 million budget has been spent.
