Six Island sixth graders are the winners of the 2016-2017 Island Book cover art contest sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce.
Students were invited to submit artwork depicting this year’s theme, What’s Great About My Town. Out of 87 entries, six students were chosen to have their work grace the cover of the phone book.
The winners this year are: Katie Freeman, Edgartown School, Katama Airfield; Lila Mikos, Oak Bluffs School, Fireworks at Ocean Park; Silas Abrams, West Tisbury School, The Ag Fair; Ella Oskan, Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School, Swordfish Harpooner; Washington Alves, Tisbury School, Ferry Boat; and Foreste Holmes, Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School, Gay head Lighthouse at Aquinnah Cliffs.
Each of the winners also received a framed version of their artwork.
This year’s Island Books are now available at the Chamber of Commerce in Vineyard Haven and at more than 25 other locations around the Island, including all banks. Those that need large amounts of Island Books are encouraged to collect them from the chamber office.
