I grew up on the edge of a small Midwestern town where I learned to appreciate the sights and sounds of Mother Nature. I am fortunate to have found a spot in Edgartown close to town yet in the woods. Here I enjoy the early morning symphony of our birds starting their day and the nightly sound of the pinkletinks.

Alas, the Morning Glory farm market turbine has imposed a constant whooshing sound that has interfered with the peaceful enjoyment of my backyard. It’s been well documented that this turbine has been a visual blight of regional proportions. However, through the agricultural loophole this turbine never had to meet the vetting process of the myriad of Vineyard boards.

I have learned to live with the visual imposition as I travel down the rural West Tisbury Road, making the bend at Jernegan Pond to be confronted by this manmade behemoth. But the audible nuisance that it produces competing with natural sounds has drawn my daily ire that I cannot ignore.

Why now, several years after the turbine went up? Maybe it’s groaning after years of constant whirling.

After the assessors determined that the value of my property had significantly increased, I mentioned this negative factor. They suggested I get others that are negatively affected by this nuisance and maybe it could be addressed .

So be it. Rest assured that until I lose my hearing, the Morning Glory market turbine nuisance has not heard the last of me.
