On Thursday, July 7, David Foster will go back in time to look to the future in a talk entitled Historic Insights to the Vineyard’s Future: Henry Whiting and the Map of 1850.

Mr. Foster is the director of the Harvard Forest in Petersham and a research associate for Polly Hill Arboretum, which is sponsoring the talk.

Mr. Foster will bring Henry Whiting and his map alive beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. Mr. Whiting was a distinguished topographer with the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey and co-founder of the MV Agricultural Society. The lecture is free.
