Noam Chomsky is a political theorist, a professor of linguistics at MIT, an outspoken activist — essentially he defines the term public intellectual. His over 100 books attest to that. He is also coming to the Vineyard.

On Monday, July 25, Mr. Chomsky will speak at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs at the screening of the documentary about his life, Requiem for the American Dream. The film and talk is presented by The Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival.

The documentary is based on four years of interviews with Mr. Chomsky and details his life and work, in particular his thoughts about the growing wealth gap in the United States — its beginnings, its repercussions, and the death of the middle class and potentially the end of democracy. Mr. Chomsky does not mince words as words are his lifeblood.

The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. There is also a pre-screening cocktail hour for $100.
