The VTA is an excellent, accommodating bus service, that is appreciated by people of all walks of life. From the directors to all their drivers, they are always helpful and timely. Unfortunately, there is disgraceful disrespect by some riders at the bus stops. Obscene graffiti, destroyed Plexiglas, trash, cigarette butts and gum everywhere.
I have asked, for six months, who is responsible for the bus stops being maintained. I was told by the VTA, the Steamship, the selectmen and Tisbury Public Works that it is not their area. Tisbury town administrator Jay Grande said he would read the contract between the bus, town and Steamship. It was filthy on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and presently.
The riders are responsible for the mess. They should be accountable. Ashtrays, no littering with fines. It is inexcusable; such a great, sorely needed service is not appreciated by all.
