Celebrate National Lighthouse Day in Aquinnah with the launch of Keepers of the Light, a new exhibit at the Manning Building by the Gay Head Light.
A little more than a year ago, the lighthouse was moved 129 feet inland, away from eroding cliffs. The new exhibit will showcase the move with time lapses, architectural renderings and videos, as well as archival images. The exhibit opens starting Saturday, August 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The exhibit will also include the first look at Keepers of the Light, a new documentary made by Liz Witham and Ken Wentworth of Film-Truth Productions. The documentary tells the story of the lighthouse and the move, and is intended for broadcast in the fall of 2016. The exhibit has a screening room where visitors can catch a sneak peek at scenes from the documentary.
On Sunday, August 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. there will be an opening celebration with lighthouse-themed music performed by Kate Taylor, Liv Taylor, and special guests, as well as clips from the documentary.
The exhibit will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through August, and on weekends in September. The scheduled is subject to change so visit gayheadlighthousedocumentary.org for up to date information. The Manning House is located at 9 Aquinnah Circle, in front of the lighthouse.
