The board of directors of Friends of Sengekontacket extended a huge thank you to board president Kate Hancock at its annual meeting on Sept. 7. Kate is leaving the board after many years of service. She was presented with a signed Ray Ellis print entitled Sengekontacket Morning.

In commenting on Kate’s legacy, new board president Michael Krause praised her for all the hard work she has done in building FOS as an organization: “Kate created new brochures, brought our website up to date, and played an important role in producing a television documentary on our organization.

“She has also played an important role in our environmental educational programs. She helped to start Saturdays on Sengy, a program for young children to help them discover the wonders of Sengekontacket Pond. She also ran our Carry In/Carry Out program, which is part of FOS’s effort to keep Sengekontacket Pond and its barrier beach clean.

“Kate is meticulous, well organized, and extremely dedicated. She is an amazing volunteer. We will miss her.”
