Runners will be forgiven if their times are a bit slow at the annual Gay Head 10K. The views are that arresting.

The annual event takes place on Sunday, Oct. 2, beginning at 11 a.m. The course takes runners past sweeping ocean views, dunes and, of course, the Gay Head Cliffs.

Race supporters this year include the Boston-based Heartbreakers, the official USATF running club of the Heartbreak Hill Running Company. Proceeds from the race benefit the Gay Head Lighthouse.

Shuttle buses will be available to bring off-Island runners to the starting line from the Vineyard Haven Ferry Terminal at around 9 a.m. Shuttles to the race will also be running from the West Tisbury Elementary School.

Runners can register at gayheadlight.org or on packet pickup day, held Oct. 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Aquinnah Old Town Hall, 65 State Road. Late registration is also available until 10 a.m. on race day.

The Gay Head 10K is partnering again this year with Cycle Martha’s Vineyard’s round-the-Island ride, which benefits Rotary Club charities, and is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1.

Visit gayheadlight.org and cyclemarthasvineyard.org to sign up for both races.
