The last graduating class at the Edgartown High School (class of 1959) has fond memories of her early teaching years in the late 50s and then time spent with her later in both her and our retirement years. Terry always had a smile and gentle way about her, as remembered by both Wendy Richards Rose and Jimmy Santos (who is down in The Villages in Florida). Terry cared that we learned and she expected good behavior in her classes. Margaret O’Neil Serpa and several other students remember the morning that Porky Francis (class of 1958) was late for class and what was said. Terry told the story several times. You might want to stop at Porky’s shop on Dock street and ask him to share it. You might laugh!

At our 50th class reunion, held in July 2009 and hosted by Eddie and Janice Belisle at their home in Kitts Field, we were delighted that both Terry and Ted Meinelt, two of our favorite teachers, were able to join us once again. (Ted had sketched each of our profiles for the 1959 Takemmy News Graduation issue.) Interesting that after we graduated, both teachers had moved off-Island for a number of years to pursue their education interests and then returned to the Island school system. Besides celebrating our 50th we shared Terry's birthday celebration as she blew out the candles on our cake. During several summers before her health was compromised and she moved from her Ocean Heights home to Windemere in Oak Bluffs, Terry often joined former students Jimmy Santos and his wife, Patty, and Pat Tyra and her husband, Harold Bauld, at those great lunches at the Anchors. Always with a smile, she shared past experiences and stories of our student days. And now that she has left us, she if fondly remembered.
